- Building-block Effect
- The specific effects that AFX organizes into more complex effects using effects choreographers. Examples include particle emitters, sound effects, lights, and zodiacs.
- Effect
- A somewhat overloaded term that may refer to specific building-block effects as well as complex layered effects consisting of multiple sub-effects.
- Effectron
- A simple effects choreographer that organizes effects within a single timeline or phrase.
- Effects Choreographer
- A high level structure for managing special effects, usually organized into one or more phrases. In AFX2, the three different effects choroegraphers are Effectron, Selectron, and Magic Spell.
- Magic Spell
- A multi-stage, multi-phrase effects choreographer used for magic effects as well as other complex effects.
- Phrase
- A collection of effects organized within a single timeline.
- Selectron
- A specialized effects choreographer used to create selection effects.
- Zodiac
- A specialized decal, often round, vertically projected straight down onto terrain, interior, and polysoup structures.
- Zodiac Plane
- A specialized effect with Zodiac-like parameter controls but the texture is mapped onto a freely positioned and oriented square quadrangle.
